new research new materials new ideas

i have been attacking a few materials other than drawing and illustrating : ) one being needle felting. a great way to get rid of stress as it includes stabbing merino wool until you get a shape and it becomes hard...here is my albino dino.

and i've been attacking the shrink paper again too...

1 lion skull
2 monkey skull
3 cat skull
4 fruit bat skull
5 rabbit skull
6 human skull

stephanie metz

these are really amazing, they are felted teddy bear skulls and the first image is a teddybear fetal development which are supposed to be used as buttons. really cute, but yet eerie at the same time. (suggested by emma)

there are plenty of examples of bones being carved into something else. there was an example of this at manchester museum of an elephant tusk, and carved into it was designs that are similar to that of egyptian hieroglyphs. all of these examples are off deviantart and what people have done themselves. they all look amazing and it must be some skill to craft bone into something else.

my own example of bone being carved into something else. this is something my boyfriend bought me for christmas a couple of years ago. it's a bear carved out of a moose antler. moose is my favourite animal and bears symbolise a calm strength, wisdom and passion. he thought this would be helpful and lucky for me.

this is one of my own designs that was influenced by the victorian/vintage theme. i love how this turned out. the skull is that of a fox, and the fox tail that is wrapped around it reminds me of an upper class lady dressing up in fur showing how rich she was.
i want to do a zine that is just of these illustrations. i might try doing these as photo-etchings as i would be able to get the shading on them really well, but if i tried a screen print the shading wouldnt show up as well.

Sandrine Pelletier

(suggested by jo) this is Sandrine Pelletier, a visual artist who works in installation and 3d. they are so pretty especially the lace skeletons, they're gorgeous. my favourite one is the last one, im not sure if this is an item of clothing like a scarf, but it's so pretty.

reeesearch

these are random peices of artwork that are from sellers off etsy. they are all fantastic and different in their own way.

research

pretty PRETTY i love the image on the left. the intricate design around the edge forms a beautiful frame and the skeletons are a fantastic focal point.

objectives

need to doooooooo...
- research on different ways to bind a book
- more 'victorian' style illustrations with different animals
- refresh myself on how to do photo-etching
- think of what to do as front covers for my zines

I want to do a book that you can pull out like an accordion and when you pull it out it's a cut out dinosaur skeleton. (idea came from mustache book i bought from the book fair). so i need to cut out skeleton out of black paper. (or go see lazerkath)

style

these are random designs that i think will be useful and relative

i love this style of cameo broaches. it reminds me of a victorian/vintage design; oval with a design around the outside.

stickerssss

these are my sticker designs : )

ok well it's definite. i am obsessed with making zines and books : ) i want to make a series of books relative to my theme; skeletons/bones/skulls. and with the use of my research and trips to manchester museum to help i am and will do lots of illustrations and whatever to use for my books : ) i want to do a mini book, a pull out book, an illustration book, quite a few really. i'll need to make some slight changes to my proposal.

i also made stickers to go with my books : )
i can't do anything without making stickers

ok well...

ok. well it has been a while since i 'blogged' it. but since the book fair i have created an obsession with two things.
1. zines
2. bones
all i want to do is make zines, and do bone-ie kind of illustrations/drawings/stuff to go in them. although i didn't originally write this in my proposal, but i think i want to do a series of books and/or zines as my final. i have all sorts of ideas and wish to do them all. : )
