work

these are some pictures of my specimen concertina books. i love how they have turned out. the ones pictured are water animal skulls and dinosaurs. and in an older blog is my animal skulls.
i plan on doing a series of different animal skulls. and maybe even a human one.
also pictured are my stickers. not really relevant but i still love doing stickers.

vintage print

sumi ink club

this was also suggested to me by craig. he thought i might like it based on some of my work. i did something similar to this in my first year, although on a much MUCH smaller scale.

Gemma Corell

this was suggested to me by craig. it wasn't until i went on her website that i realised i had bought her zine at the preston book fair. I love her work it looks so cute. her zine is great too. her designs are just black and white but are printed on different coloured paper.

one to one

i felt like i was loosing direction a little bit with my work and got a bit wrapped up in post craftnight funs. i started doing things that were different to what i usually like doing and what i originally said i was going to do from the beginning. i want to keep to my traditional realistic drawings of skulls and not random, cartoony style drawings for the sake of making a zine.
so in conclusion i am going to stick to my original idea and make books that are smaller and more delicate. i also had the idea of putting them in boxes, like a specimen box in museums. but small and delicate like bones are. i love doing little things aswell so it seems perfect.
here is a rough design of what i want to do. a concertina in a box.
box - specimen style as my drawings will be of skulls and bones
concertina - fancy and pretty, reminds me of victorian and vintage
paper - will be vanilla colour

something else i have become obsessed with
is paper punches. the rounded corner one is be
ing used on EVERYTHING. roxy let me borrow one of hers today and when you put it to the corner it leaves a lovely vintage lace feel. especially on the 'vanilla' paper that i have been using to print my illustrations on. i also tried using a lovely blue colour called 'wedgewood' too. but i'm not sure if it's too dark and i dont think it quite has the same effect as the vanilla colour.

this is something that i did post craft night when i was caught up in all the random fun. i obviously kept up with the skeleton theme in 90% of my random zine doodles but it's just not the same as the stuff that i loved doing originally.
